# KOTAMOBAGU
# A Hidden Birding Gem of North Sulawesi
Surrounded by mountains, forests, farmland, and traditional villages, Kotamobagu offers a different side of North Sulawesi for birdwatchers. The area provides a rewarding combination of endemic birds, beautiful landscapes, and authentic local scenery.
One of the highlights begins very early in the morning. We leave around 4:00 AM for the journey to the Maleo Sanctuary, arriving before sunrise when the forest is still quiet and the first activity around the nesting grounds begins.
The Maleo is one of Sulawesi’s most remarkable endemic birds and one of the main reasons to explore this area. With patience and good timing, birders may also encounter Sulawesi Bee-eater, Fiery-browed Myna, Red-eared Fruit-Dove, Cinnabar Boobook, and other endemic birds.
Beyond the birds, the journey itself is part of the experience—watching the landscape slowly come alive as the morning light reaches the mountains and surrounding forests.
